WHERE WE ARE:

We are 12 miles South of Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula - Argyll. The quickest way to get here from Edinburgh and Glasgow direction is using the Gourock to Dunoon loch ferry crossing, which runs every 20 minutes and takes 20 minutes. There is a foot ferry (Gourock-Dunoon) and a car ferry (Gourock-Hunters Quay, just north of Dunoon).

We are on a beautiful rural spot on the mainland, at just over an hour from Glasgow we are easily accessible and getting here is well worth it!

You may prefer to simply drive North from Glasgow, up Loch Lomond, across Loch Fyne, and down to Toward. It is a stunningly picturesque drive that takes just over two hours. Full details follow.

                               BY ROAD:

From Edinburgh or Glasgow, take the M8 heading West, which takes you straight to Gourock where you can link with the car and passenger service ( www.western-ferries.co.uk).

If you prefer the scenic route, from Glasgow, take the A82 North, along Loch Lomond side and then the enigmatic A83, known in the past as the ‘Rest and be Thankful’, before joining the famous 'Three Lochs' A815 to Dunoon. Drive on through Dunoon on the A815, past Innellan, to Toward.

At Toward, drive along the A815 towards Toward Castle. Follow the road towards Loch Striven. You will pass Toward Sailing Club on your left and Killellan farm (wind turbine outside). Follow along until the road takes a sharp left bend. This takes you over a small humpback bridge. Immediately after, on the right, there is a large set of gates. You have arrived at Knockdow House! Follow the drive to the House.

BY FERRY:

We are serviced by both foot passenger and car ferry services between Gourock and Dunoon.There is a foot passenger ferry terminal in Dunoon (www.argyllferries.co.uk) and a car and passenger ferry service from Gourock's McInroy's Point to Hunters Quay, just north of Dunoon (www.western-ferries.co.uk). Gourock is easily accessible off the M8.
The foot passenger ferry from Dunoon links with the rail service departing Gourock railway station, connecting  directly into Glasgow Central. There is not a taxi rank as such at the ferry terminal. Local taxis are best booked prior to arrival.

The ferry also connects with the 'Bus-link' to Glasgow airport at Paisley Gilmour Street station

If you have arrived by ferry, as you drive out of the ferry terminal, turn left and follow the A815 through Dunoon, past Innellan, to Toward.

Glasgow Central Station runs services that connect directly to the passenger ferry terminal at Gourock station. The foot ferry arrives to the centre of Dunoon, our nearest, largest town. Timetables: www.argyllferries.co.uk

BY AIR:

Both Edinburgh airport and Glasgow International Airport are within easy access of the M8 (heading West).

From Edinburgh Airport , join the M8 direction Glasgow and follow on to direction Greenock

From Glasgow Airport, join the M8 heading to Greenock.

Gourock is the next town along from Greenock. Argyll ferries (www.argyllferries.co.uk) run a foot passenger service departing from the pier adjacent to Gourock train station. Western Ferries (*) (www.western-ferries.co.uk) operate a car and foot passenger ferry from the opposite end of Gourock. Ferries arrive at Dunoon and Hunters Quay, just North of Dunoon respectively.
